After the two ladder matches for this year's WWE Money in the Bank premium live event, we have our new Mr. Money in the Bank in Seth Rollins and our new Ms. Money in the Bank in Naomi as the winners of the the 2025 briefcases.
As per usual, this means they have one year to "cash in" their contracts for a title opportunity against any champion they want, at any moment, no matter what the show or the circumstances. With an overall success rate of 100% for the women's division and 70% for the men's (77% overall)—source: Money in the Bank statistics—it's fairly safe to say they will get some gold in the next few months and can change the landscape of WWE on the road to WrestleMania 42.
How We Got Here:
Qualifiers for this year's ladder matches were all Triple Threat bouts, with six men and six women being split evenly between the Raw and SmackDown rosters.
On the women's side, Alexa Bliss defeated Chelsea Green and Michin, Giulia defeated Charlotte Flair and Zelina Vega, Naomi defeated Jade Cargill and Nia Jax, Rhea Ripley defeated Kairi Sane and Zoey Stark, Roxanne Perez defeated Becky Lynch and Natalya, and Stephanie Vaquer defeated Ivy Nile and Liv Morgan.
On the men's side, Solo Sikoa first won entry by beating Jimmy Uso and Rey Fenix. LA Knight was next, besting Aleister Black and Shinsuke Nakamura. Penta then beat Chad Gable and Dragon Lee, Seth Rollins defeated Finn Balor and Sami Zayn, and Andrade earned SmackDown's final spot by taking out Carmelo Hayes and Jacob Fatu. Chad Gable then got another chance for Raw, donning his El Grande Americano mask to beat AJ Styles and CM Punk as the last qualifier.
Match Details:
The opening bout of the event was the women's ladder match, where the crowd was particularly supporting the three babyfaces of the match. Despite being two of the heavy favorites, Rhea Ripley and Alexa Bliss were the two last Superstars to suffer from the ladders, as Naomi managed to push them off the tallest ladder, forcing them to go crashing down and clear out the field for a clean climb for herself.
On the men's side, there were several instances where it seemed El Grande Americano, Penta, Andrade, LA Knight, or Solo Sikoa could grab the briefcase as well. However, the field was eventually reset after some extra interference from Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker coming out to help Rollins, and JC Mateo and Jacob Fatu doing the same for Solo Sikoa.
However, since Fatu had overheard Sikoa making fun of him last night on SmackDown (saying he was "all gas and no brains"), Fatu decided to pull Sikoa off from the ladder and prevent him from getting the contract.
After all that madness, Rollins and Knight were the two to cap off this match, and a stomp to Knight later, Rollins has won his second briefcase.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
Naomi's path seems pretty clear. She's only interacted with Tiffany Stratton, so it would be odd if she were to suddenly hop over to the Raw roster and snatch the Women's World Championship away from Iyo Sky. Instead, I'd assume Naomi will cash in on Stratton at the perfect Tiffy Time in the next month or so, prior to Night of Champions crowning a Queen of the Ring, which Jade Cargill could certainly win to set up a title match against Naomi for SummerSlam, where Cargill might walk out with the belt. In the meantime, a match between Naomi and Bianca Belair seems fitting once The EST of WWE fully heals from her injuries.
As far as the men's Money in the Bank direction, Rollins has made it clear that he's going to use this to dictate his vision of the future of WWE. John Cena is most likely not going to be the target, as Rollins has interacted much more with Jey Uso, who is also on the same brand as The Visionary. Most likely, he cashes in and wins the title soon enough, and Monday Night Rollins is a thing again before SummerSlam.
