Last night, John Cena put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Randy Orton at Backlash in what's been billed as their last match. Their rivalry is one of the most storied in WWE history, and this match didn't disappoint.
However, what made this one interesting is that their roles were reversed: now, Cena was the heel and Orton was the beloved babyface.
It was a fantastic back-and-forth match with plenty of near-falls and table spots. There were also multiple referee bumps, and when SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis and other officials entered the ring to check on them, they all received RKOs for their trouble.
The Viper had Cena lined up for the punt, only for R-Truth—who, for years now, has said Cena is his childhood hero—to enter the ring and stop him. He too got an RKO, but the distraction was all that the Last Real Champion needed.
A low blow and Attitude Adjustment put Orton down for the 1-2-3, ending this rivalry once and for all. There are rumblings that WWE plans to pit Cena against R-Truth at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main event show a couple of weeks from now.
Chris Van Vliet recently asked Truth about possibly facing Cena during his retirement tour, and the veteran responded, "Y'all want to see that? But the only way we can see that though, it's got to be the right way. The old me, I'm not a bad guy, I'm a good guy now, if you haven't noticed that. I'm a good guy. I kiss the babies, I hug people, I don't kick people in the nomads."
"So for that to happen, it would have to be a complete turnaround. So I don't know, man, I would love to. Man, he did some wrong stuff, and I like Cody," he added, remaining in character, for the most part.
