Back when Booker T was a regular Raw announcer along with Michael Cole and Corey Graves, his style was generally seen as... well, let's say a little "out there."

His commentary regularly received criticism from fans, and while chatting to Chris Featherstone on the Pancakes and Powerslams podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer responded by suggesting that he was simply fulfilling the role he was hired to do.

"As you notice, I can talk just like I’m talking to you right now on television if I wanted to but that’s not the role I choose to play on television because that’s not the real Booker T that the people know on television. The intelligent speaking, the guy who is trying to use the right pronunciations for every word that he says. You know, I don’t think that would be real for me to actually go out there and do. So, for me to play my character but know my role and know that it’s not about me, it’s about those performers. I think that’s the most important thing, I think that’s what I brought to the table more than anything, and I think that is something that’s needed. So, you’ll be seeing me periodically still, bouncing back and forth between my duties on Monday Night Raw.”

Though he doesn't come right out and say it, there's a very good chance that Booker was, to be blunt, told to say stupid shit on a regular basis in order to give Graves and Cole something to bounce off (because god forbid they'd react to what's going on in the ring), and this has become even more apparent since Jonathan Coachman has taken over that role.

Come back, Booker, all is forgiven!
