Earlier this year, WWE announced plans to hold King and Queen of the Ring in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 27. However, plans have clearly changed as the premium live event has now been rebranded as Night of Champions!
Since Triple H took charge of creative, sweeping, unexplained alterations like these have not been the norm, so we're definitely surprised to see this happen with no apparent rhyme or reason.
While we're not going to point a finger at Vince McMahon, he's always been heavily involved in WWE's dealings with the Saudis and is overseeing creative from a higher level since the company's sale. With that in mind, there's a good chance he pulled the trigger on the decision to scrap King and Queen of the Ring.
A new graphic for Night of Champions has been revealed, and we can't help but wonder whether this has something to do with the upcoming WWE Draft.
If each brand is getting its own titles, then this may well be where they're crowned. We're assuming it will be an important event, anyway, as this is the first time the PLE's name has been used since 2015. As that suggests, Night of Champions is a show where every title is typically defended.
Before Night of Champions takes place, Backlash will hail from Puerto Rico on May 6. Nothing has been scheduled for June yet, though Money in the Bank is going to take place in London on July 1. After that, there's SummerSlam on August 5.
Stay tuned for updates.
