Following the release of Duke Hudson the other day, another member of the NXT roster has been let go as it seems Cedric Alexander is also leaving WWE.
Alexander first joined WWE as part of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament back in June 2016, where he received a huge round of applause from the audience chanting "please sign Cedric" after he was eliminated from the tournament by Kota Ibushi.
Alexander would go on to join the cruiserweight division and be a mainstay and featured player on 205 Live, eventually going on to win that title at WrestleMania 34 before moving on to the main roster, wherein he also won the 24/7 Championship three times and was even a tag team champion on Monday Night Raw alongside Shelton Benjamin as part of The Hurt Business.
Throughout several ups and downs over the past eight and a half years, Alexander stayed one of the reliable in-ring workers that was unfortunately frequently relegated to just wrestling on WWE Main Event, and had a tag team with Ashante "Thee" Adonis on SmackDown that was never given much of a chance to even start.
When those two were traded back over to the NXT roster in July 2024, they were pretty quickly split apart so Adonis could start his new gimmick of being obsessed with the women's roster, while Alexander started a new partnership with Je'Von Evans, acting as a mentor to the rookie. "Uncle Ced" last wrestled in a losing effort against Ethan Page on the January 28th episode of NXT.
Where he goes from here is currently unknown, but with The Hurt Syndicate over in All Elite Wrestling, that could be an easy way for him to join the AEW roster and rejoin Benjamin, Bobby Lashley and MVP. Yours truly will certainly be rooting for him to go over there, as Alexander has a lot left to give and can have some great matches with nearly everyone in Tony Khan's toybox, particularly as AEW puts more of a focus on the in-ring product than WWE.
