Following last night's AEW All Out PPV (you can find the full results for the show here), a post-show media scrum took place which saw AEW President Tony Khan put himself front and centre.
While it's always equal parts funny and disconcerting to watch Khan's bizarre facial expressions - we're assuming he's trying to remain "in character" - the executive had plenty to say when asked about his recent decision to fire CM Punk.
Quizzed about whether Punk has a non-compete clause in his contract, Khan largely dodged the question.
"I don't want to discuss the terms of the separation, in that sense," he responded. "I think it's best to say...first of all, I very much want to thank CM Punk, Phil, for everything he did for AEW as a wrestler."
"But, I don't think it was an easy decision for anybody on the discipline committee or for the outside counsel or for me to do something like that. But I do think it was the right move, and as far as what's going to happen in the future, I can't speak to that. I'm not the attorneys who interpret all that language."
The "discipline committee"? Why do we have a bad feeling that it probably includes AEW's EVPs, The Elite?
Regardless, after largely avoiding another question about whether he feels he learned anything from what happened with Punk, Khan would go on to comment on "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry's current AEW status considering the fact he was also involved in that scuffle with Punk.
"He's been suspended indefinitely. I think we've suspended everybody in that investigation and then took further action after that based on what happened and came out of the investigation."
"As for Jack, we suspended Jack and, you know, as a participant in an incident backstage. And Jack hasn't been around but that's all I can say about it. At the time, we did suspend him and he hasn't been at AEW since AEW All In in London."
Perry is good friends with The Elite, so he'll no doubt return to the company sooner rather than later. As for Punk, we don't know what the future holds in store for him, though AEW is said to bracing itself for an "explosive" response from the Best in the World.
Many fans hope to see Punk make the leap to WWE, but whether that will happen obviously remains to be seen.
