CM Punk made his long-awaited return to pro wrestling when he signed with AEW in 2021. However, there were those - The Elite, basically - who didn't want the Second City Saint upstaging them and things soon escalated.
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Punk shared his side of the story on all but the events of "Brawl Out" and took aim at AEW President Tony Khan for his apparent inability to discipline Jack Perry and ultimately avoid what happened at All In last summer.
Khan was asked for his thoughts on Punk's comments while promoting the upcoming ROH Supercard of Honor event and the billionaire seemed too afraid to answer.
"I'd prefer not to talk about that," he said, dodging the question. "I think I'd really rather focus on the card and Supercard of Honor, but thanks for asking."
The AEW President has been widely mocked for his past comments about Punk's fight with Perry leaving him in fear for his life. However, while Khan refused to go on the record here, he did seemingly use Adam "Edge" Copeland as his mouthpiece during this past Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite.
The AEW TNT Champion seemed to dismiss Punk's claims as "negative BS" and said the company is "where the best wrestle," an obvious attempt to move on from Punk's scathing assessment of AEW.
"I can’t tell you what Tony felt or what he was thinking but I never did anything to make him fear for his life but he’s who he is," Punk said earlier this week. "There was a concerted effort to, I guess, slander me and try to ruin my character."
"And that’s kind of the genesis of all the drama. Like, don’t do that, why are you doing that to a guy who works for your company? Why are you lying? Why are you spreading lies and rumors and bullshit about your top guy?"
When the Best in the World was asked about Khan's management style, he added, "Man, that’s a loaded question because I don’t want this to be...I don’t like the drama but the truth is the truth, he is not a boss, he’s a nice guy and I think ultimately that is a detriment to the company, but it’s not my company."
