AEW will introduce the TNT Championship following an elimination tournament.

The promotion confirmed the news through their latest "Road To" documentary that an eight-man tournament will take place to crown the first-ever TNT Champion at Double or Nothing on May 23rd. The first participants will be revealed on AEW Dark tomorrow, with the last four being confirmed on Dynamite this Wednesday.

At the moment, there’s no word on what kind of title the mid-card belt will be; however, the TNT Championship appears to be akin of an Intercontinental or United States Championship. Thus far, AEW has 54 confirmed male wrestlers on their loaded roster so it was only a matter of time before a mid-card championship would be introduced.

Back in January, rumors started circulating that the promotion will introduce new belts into the mix; however, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter believed that it would be a set of six-man tag team titles. With teams like Death Triangle (PAC, Pentagon Jr., Fenix), Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Marko Stunt & Jungle Boy) Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy, Trent), and SCU (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) already on the roster then six-man tag team titles do make sense.

Of course, those belts can still be introduced as it was speculated that it wouldn’t be revealed until sometime next year. As previously stated, the first-ever TNT Champion will be crowned at Double or Nothing in Las Vegas. The May pay-per-view is still up in the air at the moment due to the coronavirus; however, AEW continues to move forward with plans until the show has been officially scrapped.
