As WWE's Dean Ambrose, Jon Moxley won multiple championships and main evented more than his fair share of big shows. However, he grew dissatisfied with Vince McMahon's juvenile approach to pro wrestling and clearly has no regrets about leaving the company.
As one of AEW's top stars, Moxley has been given the chance to showcase the style of wrestling he prefers and to bleed...a lot. Whether being part of that promotion is good for his physical health in the long run is hard to say but he clearly seems to be enjoying himself.
During a recent interview with Bleav in Pro Wrestling, Moxley actually addressed his health and how his schedule with AEW has ultimately been beneficial.
"Nothing to me is worse or does more damage than travelling. For years, it was like travelling was my job," he explains. "The wrestling part was kind of the reward at the end of the day. Your life becomes travelling at certain points in this game. It's really amazing how that adds up on your body and your joints and stuff."
"The doctor last year told me that I have the arthritis of a 70-year-old man and that was quite humbling. That was a year or two ago so by now it's like a 72-year-old man."
"We take a lot of pride in our work and our work ethic and our standard that we set ourselves to and the way we do a job," Moxley continued when asked about being someone Tony Khan can rely on. "To be one of those guys, that's like, reliable, kind of always there."
"The downside is it's very easy to take you for granted. The last conversation I had with Vince McMahon, like real conversation, straight up told me, 'We took you for granted.'"
Moxley was a workhorse in WWE and the company definitely didn't take full advantage of him during his final couple of years in the company. While it's hard not to wonder what might have been had he stuck around - particularly with Triple H in charge these days - it seems Moxley is happier being in AEW.
As he's previously battled and overcome issues with alcohol and substance abuse, that's definitely a good thing, and we'd be shocked if he's not one day inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside his fellow members of The Shield, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
