Don’t expect Toni Storm to go back to WWE.
Since leaving her former employer in 2021, Toni Storm has been killing it in AEW. She got off to a rocky start, but once she started the Timeless gimmick then she became the hottest thing in professional wrestling.
The AEW Women’s World Champion has grown so much since her time in WWE, but former WWE stars tend to have the urge to go back to see if they can finally be a top star. Storm’s gimmick has WWE written all over it, but fans shouldn’t expect her to return as Toni simply doesn’t have any interest in doing so.
“No. And that’s no offense to them.” Toni said on The Sandman’s Podcast, “I think they’re great, and I understand them for exactly what they are.”
The AEW Women’s World Champion has said great things about her former employer so there’s no love loss there, but Toni understands her brand and it doesn’t seem to mesh well with what WWE is doing.
“They’re a machine, they’re a business, and I just don’t fit in with their whole shtick, and that’s cool.”
Though time can heal all wounds, it’s not particularly surprising that Storm has no interest in going back. First, her gimmick will be severely watered down if she went back to the WWE. There’s no way the company would allow her to say all of the sexual innuendo stuff, even if they are a bit edgier these days. Plus, Storm was completely miserable the last time she was in WWE. Though it was under a different regime, her love for the promotion seemed to be gone in her first interview with Renee Paquette.
“It was cool at one point and then it wasn't. It changed and I didn't want anything to do with it. My main goal in wrestling was to be on [WWE's main roster] and then I got there [and] realised that this is just not going to work out. [...] I abruptly quit. I woke up that morning having no idea that I was going to quit [and] it was a complicated ordeal. I had built up frustrations with the place for a very long time, like a lot of people do. They don't give a shit, so why should I? This isn't going to work.
I'm not going to succeed here, I can just see it. [...] I like to think that I've been around wrestling long enough to know—I just know what's right and what's wrong for me and what I like and what I don't like, and I just didn't like it in the end. I didn't feel that appreciated. And I just felt like they, at times, didn't have very much respect for me. I feel like over time they just crushed my love for wrestling.
It just wasn't even wrestling anymore. You're not even allowed to say "wrestling". I thought my whole purpose in life was to go to WWE, but then over time I realised it's just pro wrestling that I love. It's not a company that I love.”
Of course, we can never rule out the possibility of Toni Storm never going back to WWE, but are you disappointed that it seems that she’ll never step foot into the promotion again?
