Alex Windsor has some thoughts on AEW’s CEO.
Alex Windsor is coming off a rather strong month in AEW. Though the 31-year-old failed to win the AEW Women’s World and TBS Championships, she’s given such a strong showing that it made her stand out in AEW’s stacked women’s division.
However, most folks notably go back to her match against Mercedes Mone as a huge highlight in her AEW career thus far.
During Alex’s appearance on AEW Unrestricted, she talked about her TBS title match and she never thought she would get such an opportunity.
“Oh my God, well, honestly, I never would have thought — obviously, before coming into AEW and certainly when I first started — I would be having a singles match with Mercedes Moné. I remember when I first got told we were doing the tag match, I was kind of like, aw, that was a big deal, for me, just to be in the same ring as her.
I remember when I first ever met her, I was injured and I think I was just at New Japan STRONG with Will (Ospreay), and I just remember seeing her and thinking, like, f*cking hell. It’s crazy that she’s here so I never — I never, ever would have thought that our paths would have crossed to have that match with her, and I remember, she’d obviously done the promo, mentioned myself, mentioned Will, and Will said to me, he was like, ‘You’re gonna end up having a match with her because she’s called you out’ and I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’ I needed to get my biggest girl pants on. Put them on,” Windsor laughed.
She then goes in deeper about the match itself and Windsor says that it’s one of her favorite matches of her career.
“The match, honestly, I feel like that is one of my favorite matches that I’ve had. Obviously, going up against her, even just the little things. Having so many people behind me before the match, and then the reactions it got during it. The fact that we were like, ‘Oh, are we gonna be on first? Are we gonna be on main?’ And knowing you’re gonna open up the show. That’s just, like, okay, we’ve got to set the tone… If you’re gonna start a show, you need to come in hot and I just feel like, afterwards, that was so cool. I remember laying there after the match just thinking, f*cking hell, I’m gonna remember that for a long time.”
