All Elite Wrestling has exceeded all expectations, and the company has been making a huge impact by seemingly doing all the right things. At this point, it actually appears as if they can do no wrong, and President Tony Khan has now reflected on how WCW has served as a great example of "what not to do."
During an interview with The Financial Times, Khan talked about how AEW has learned from the mistakes WCW made while competing with WWE during the Monday Night Wars. Khan believes that had the company continued to produce competitive shows and actually run them logically, the battle between WWE and WCW could have lasted for decades.
Instead, he notes that WCW was grossly mismanaged (likely a reference to Eric Bischoff's time in charge), something which ultimately did a real "disservice" to wrestling fans.
Khan actually pointed out some examples, including a failure to advertise matches in advance and signing six-figure deals with wrestlers who weren't even working at the time. Needless to say, he certainly seems to have found a way of avoiding making the same mistakes as things are looking good for AEW right now as they continue beating NXT in terms of ratings every Wednesday night.
