Andrade's AEW debut during Friday night's episode of Dynamite shocked fans, and thanks to Wrestling Inc., we have some new details on the deal he negotiated with the company.
Apparently, El Idolo met with Tony Khan in Florida the week he was released from his WWE contract in March. With no 90-day non-compete, Khan was keen to sign the former United States Champion, but talks stalled. Why? Well, Andrade wanted creative control over his character, including the power to veto any losses.
A compromise was ultimately reached, and he's now set to have a limited amount of creative control on how his matches finish (it's no great surprise he feels this way after what happened in WWE).
Interestingly, the site notes that Andrade was also in talks with IMPACT Wrestling. They were on board with his creative control demands, but couldn't reach an agreement on the number of dates he'd work, how much he would be paid, and a guaranteed downside (which isn't something the company offers). Ring of Honor was also interested, but those talks went nowhere.
