Death Before Dishonor officially has a main event.
It’s been confirmed by Tony Khan himself that Hechicero will be the next man to step up and challenge for the ROH World Championship on August 29.
The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise since it was teased at Supercard of Honor that Hechicero would be the next opponent for Bandido.
The reigning ROH World Champion had a hard fought match against Don Callis Family member, Konosuke Takeshita. The former International Champion took Bandido to the limit and came close to finishing the job until a surprise rollup sealed Takeshita’s fate. As you can imagine, Don Callis wasn’t happy, but his latest acquisition has the opportunity to take what Takeshita failed to do.
This will be Bandido’s fifth title defense since beating Chris Jericho for the belt back at Dynasty. In addition to Konosuke Takeshita, Bandido has successfully managed to defend his title against Dralistico, Mascara Dorada, and Adam Priest.
Hechicero is no stranger to world titles. Though the masked luchador has yet to win any titles in ROH/AEW, Hechicero is a former CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. THe CMLL star kept the belt strong for 409 days, beating big names such as Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero, and Euforia. This is his first ROH World title opportunity in what should be one hell of a match.
Death Before Dishonor is scheduled to take place in Philadelphia, PA. Bandido could end up doing double duty for both ROH and AEW this month as the ROH World Champion is currently tagging with Brody King in the AEW World Tag Team title tournament.
Known as Brodido, the unlikely team pulled off a major upset on Dynamite by beating former AEW World Tag Team Champions Matt and Nick Jackson (or Max and Jeremy) of The Young Bucks in a stellar match. Should Brodido win the finals then they’ll go on and challenge the current tag team champions at Forbidden Door. Could we see Bandido with two belts? We’ll just have to wait and see. As for Death Before Dishonor, the world title bout is the only confirmed match on the card thus far.
