Is Orange Cassidy coming back soon?
It appears that fans don’t have to wait much longer for the former International Champion as Fightful Select reported that he’s expected to be back on television sooner than later.
Cassidy had been out since March 2025 due to a torn labrum and though there were reports that he actually had a torn pectoral muscle (which means he would’ve been out longer), Cassidy has been cleared to step back into the squared circle. There’s no word on when he’s scheduled to make his return. There seemed to be a character shift of sorts with Orange trying to find his place in AEW following his world title loss, though it’s not been confirmed that AEW will pick that story back up.
Given that Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland were just taken out, it’s quite possible that he’ll step in their place as one of the top babyfaces to take on the Death Riders. Though he does have the option to face Okada or Kyle Fletcher for their respective belts.
The 41-year-old has had a rather light start to 2025. Before he re-emerged in the International Championship series, Cassidy took a bit of a break from wrestling for personal reasons. He competed at Revolution, though it was on the pre-show with Big Boom AJ and Mark Briscoe.
Storywise, Cassidy didn’t leave on anything significant. The AEW star was one of the early names fighting the Death Riders late last year; He also competed for the AEW World title at World’s End against Jon Moxley, Jay White, and Adam “Hangman” Page.
It is quite possible that Cassidy will be dropped back down in the Death Riders story. Though he has no onscreen connection to Strickland or Ospreay, he can easily help fill the void on the babyface side of things. Though Cassidy mostly floats around the upper mid-card, he is an important part of AEW and he’s arguably had the best run with the International title. Let’s hope he’s given something to really chew on when he returns.
This is the most time Cassidy has spent out of AEW. He’s been a consistent player since the company’s inception back in 2019. It’s crazy to believe that he’s 41-year-old. Nevertheless, it’ll be fun to see what he does in his return as Cassidy is a very entertaining performer. He somehow manages to balance the comedic aspects of his gimmick without being too silly or over-the-top.
Are you looking forward to Orange Cassidy’s return?
