Have you noticed the booking of Kamille?

The strange relationship between Kamille and AEW started when the former NWA World Women’s Champion signed to the company in February 2024. The 31-year-old was fresh off her historic 812-day title run that was praised by fans and critics alike. People were genuinely excited to see Kamille in AEW, but then, she took a good while to make her debut.

She finally did in July 2024, aligning herself with current TBS Champion Mercedes Mone. Naturally, Kamille was booked as a dominant force early on, but Tony Khan had her lose to Kris Statlander in Kamille’s seventh match.

That was Kamille’s last AEW match. She had an awkward and rushed split with Mercedes Mone, but the AEW star’s last segment was her found unconsious backstage. Interestingly enough, Kamille is also one of the performers in the Queen of the Ring film that was just released. Yet, Toni Storm was the only one that got the push on television. It could be explained that AEW didn’t want to put her back on television until the assault angle was resolved, but Kamille’s future in the company is in question.

David Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer talked about Kamille and AEW, and he claims that the promotion likely soured on the former NWA World Women’s Champion pretty quickly.

"They didn't do anything with [her]. She came in, she had that terrible match, and then it was kinda like... They pretty much gave up on her at that point," he opined.

"I think that they may not have understood the level that she was at, you know?" he added. "With AEW, because it's such a wrestling [focused] promotion, when someone isn't good — because most of the people are really good, even on the women side — it's really noticeable when someone is bad."

There's no confirmation that AEW did actually sour on Kamille, though based on her booking, it wouldn't be a surprise if they did. Tony Khan was actually questioned about the status of Kamille on the Battleground Podcast, and the AEW President played off the backstage angle that took Kamille off of television.

“We don’t know who attacked Kamille, and the last time we saw her, she was attacked. We know she had a breakup with Mercedes Mone in their business relationship. Mercedes is flourishing since then. She’s done really well on her own. But Kamille, we haven’t seen her since she was attacked, and we’re not sure what that was and what that was about.

Khan added, "I do think that’s an interesting thought for sure, and it’s something to keep an eye on, but that would be a great matchup. When Kamille does return to get payback for that attack, it’ll be interesting to see who she goes after.”

Hopefully Kamille is given another chance as she’s really a talented performer. Every wrestler has an off night and it would be a shame if AEW did sour on her because of that one match.
