On this week's edition of "AEW Unrestricted," hosts Aubrey Edwards and Tony Schiavone sat down with All Elite Wrestling star Eddie Kingston. Among the topics covered were why he decided to sign AEW, even though there was an offer on the table from WWE.
Asked what led to him making that decision, Kingston admitted that it was his mom who talked him out of going to WWE. "My mom. My mom told me. I’m a mama’s boy in the sense that what she says goes," he explains. "Her opinion holds a lot of weight with me to the point where I’ve been with girls I thought I was in love with and my mother will be like, ‘I don’t think she is good’ and I would break up with them. It’s just the way it is. My mother knows me better than anybody."
"I was contacted by WWE and it was humbling," Kingston continued. "It was nice that they contacted me. I was trying to think where I should go. My mom said, look, ‘you won’t be happy in WWE. I know you and you won’t be happy. You will probably get fired three weeks in.’ I was like, ‘well, then I’m going to AEW’ and she said ‘good.’ She was the deciding factor. There were a lot of things going for AEW, but she was the deciding factor."
While we're not sure WWE would have fired Kingston after three weeks, it's hard to imagine him getting much of a push, and he likely would have been stuck in NXT for a good while before moving to the main roster (by which point he probably wouldn't want to go).
Do you think he made the right choice taking his mom's advice?
