I don’t think Jake Hager likes Tony Khan too much.
When the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion left the company in late May, it was relatively a quiet release. Neither Hager or Khan confirmed that the AEW star was gone. Realistically speaking, it wasn’t too much of a surprise that Hager left AEW as his stint as a solo act didn’t have much support behind it.
Still, it seemed that Hager and Tony Khan left on good terms. That is until Hager accused Khan of being a communist on November 6:
"Tony Khan is someone who threaten[ed] my job if I didn't stop promoting my Trump," Hager said. "He [i]s a communist."
This came after Hager was tweeting derogatory remarks against women and abortion rights. A fan @tweeted Tony Khan and Bryan Danielson, even though Hager was long gone from the promotion. But the former AEW star didn’t stop there that night as he continued to throw shots at his former boss:
"Do u want proof that @TonyKhan is a communist and threatened me to be silent or else?" Hager asked.
All of his tweets were eventually deleted. Tony Khan never responded to Jake Hager’s accusations. There’s no word on if Hager’s words are true, but it’s clear that Hager is not a fan of Tony Khan. And according to the 42-year-old himself, the AEW President wasn’t too keen on Hager as well. The former AEW star credited Chris Jericho for bringing him into AEW, despite Tony Khan’s lack of interest:
“It was awesome. Chris Jericho is the greatest of all time, yeah, one of my favorites,” Hager said on News4JAX The Local Station. “For him to bring me in and say I’m his guy, I mean, what a compliment. Tony didn’t want me there, but Chris said he wanted me there, and it was awesome.”
Hager even discussed his tweets about Tony Khan being a communist. He doesn’t have any regrets over what he said, even though it cost him a few wrestling gigs. Hager’s recent statements have surely killed any possibility that he’ll return to the promotion someday.
Besides the Tony Khan drama, Hager has been relatively quiet in the wrestling space as the former World Heavyweight Champion hasn’t done much since leaving AEW in May. Hager may be semi-retired as he does shows here and there, but he isn’t signed to any promotion. It’s all possible that he’ll end up back in WWE, though there’s not much fanfare over the World Heavyweight Champion going back to the promotion that made him famous.
