Kota Ibushi has gone down with a nasty injury.
Last week, it was heavily rumored that the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion had suffered a major injury that forced his match against Josh Alexander to be called off. Collision was taped earlier in the week and there were various reports and videos circulating showing Ibushi being helped to the back following a spot in his match against the Don Callis Family member.
AEW still played the match on Saturday and the spot in question was Ibushi falling off the turnbuckle to the outside. Beforehand, it wasn’t confirmed that Ibushi was seriously injured, but the 43-year-old confirmed the news through a social media post that he broke his femur (Transcript courtesy of Fightful).
Again?
Again?
I’ve only had serious injuries. This is a broken femur, and the broken bone is trying to break through the flesh. They told me to stop, but the surgery was completed successfully!!
(Unless I get another serious injury) I plan to live my life as a normal person from now on.
It’s been about five years of breaking, healing, and accidents But it didn’t end like this, right? Above all, the best boss Tony Khan, and my colleague as vice president Kenny Omega. Nakazawa-san, who helped me with so many things. AEW, the world’s best. I can’t believe the president himself gave me a bouquet and a letter. After something like this, I can’t quit again!! I cried.
I don’t know if it will take a year or a year and a half, but I’ll start by doing something. Right now, I’m in so much pain that I can only move my toes. I was surprised that I still had a sense of pain. Mr. Tony Khan…I just have to keep trying.
The AEW President himself has spoken out about Ibushi unfortunate injury and he labeled him as one of the greatest wrestlers that he’s ever seen and wished him a speedy recovery.
Tony Khan even visited the AEW star at the hospital. Sadly, this was only Ibushi’s fifth match in AEW since he made his return in June. Ibushi was sidelined with a major injury in 2024 as he suffered right tibiofibular ligament tear and a right ankle lateral ligament complex injury. At the moment, there’s no timetable for when he’ll be able to return. We’ll keep you updated when more news comes out about his injury.
