Mercedes Mone is finally defending one of her 200 belts on AEW television.
The “CEO” of AEW currently holds a record setting 12 titles. Naturally, Mercedes Mone defends the TBS Championship the most, with her recent victory over Mina Shirakawa being the latest title defense. However, Mercedes is scheduled to defend one of her other belts on Collision this Saturday.
Tony Khan has confirmed that the 33-year-old will put the CMLL World Women’s title on the line against Olympia.
The CMLL star actually made her AEW television debut last week on Collision where she interrupted a Casting Call for MxM TV and fought Taya Valkyrie. Unfortunately, the former TNA Knockouts Champion was in jobber position here and Olympia pretty much dominated the match.
Olympia is rather new to the business as she just started wrestling in 2021. She’s mainly competed in CMLL, though she’s been down in Ring of Honor and Japan as well. This will be a first time match between these two. Thus far, it’s the only confirmed bout for the upcoming Collision episode.
Mone hasn’t lost a singles match outside of AEW since 2023 when Willow Nightingale beat her for the vacant NJPW Strong Women’s Championship. Even then, Mone was originally scheduled to win the title that night, but she called an audible after suffering an injury that forced her out of action for months.
However, since this match is taking place within AEW then there’s a chance that she could drop the belt since she lost to Toni Storm at All In. Mone even tapped during a recent tag team match against Riho and Alex Windsor. Interestingly, AEW doesn’t seem to be interested in following up a pivotal moment by granting Windsor another crack at the TBS title.
Nevertheless, Mercedes also has to worry about the AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament and Kris Statlander. Should she successfully retain the CMLL World Women’s Championship on Saturday then Mercedes could possibly enter the month of December holding 14 belts.
