One of the featured matches for AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming 2025 on December 10 was the finals of the tournament for the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship titles.
Competing tonight for those belts were The Timeless Love Bombs ("Timeless" Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa) and The Babes of Wrath (Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale). Despite being the underdogs, The Babes of Wrath were able to get the upset and win the titles!
How We Got Here:
These titles go back to essentially the start of All Elite Wrestling, as Tony Khan had said from the beginning how he'd like to have both a singles and tag team title set for the women's division. Of course, it took years from June 2019 all the way until September 24, 2025, for these titles to even be announced.
It then took another whole month (October 22) before the bracket was revealed, for some reason, making this tournament a long stretch to get to these finals.
Along the way, The Timeless Love Bombs defeated Alex Windsor and Riho, then The MegaProblems (Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir) in the semifinals. The Babes of Wrath had beaten Mercedes Mone and Athena in the quarterfinals and The Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart and Skye Blue) in round two.
Match Details:
This was the opening match of the show. The Timeless Love Bombs had the edge as the more experienced team given Harley Cameron's more rookie status, but she held her own. Eventually, Willow Nightingale was able to get the victory with a pin over Mina Shirakawa, as shown here:
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
It's nice to see the underdogs win. These are tag team titles, which ultimately don't mean as much as the singles belts to a lot of fans. While they can and should be important, there is more leeway in giving a belt like this to someone like Cameron rather than to put the TBS Championship on her, for instance. She's popular and getting better over time, so that's a nice way to reward her for her efforts. And when it comes to Willow, she's consistently been one of the best in the company, so any title she wins is a bonus. She should arguably be the TOP woman in the company, but this is better than nothing.
I think we're looking at a situation where these belts can change hands at almost any time, but to avoid them being too weak of champions, they'll probably hold them for at least a few months. I think Revolution might be the first time I'd be worried about a title change, and I could see The Sisters of Sin potentially winning them.
