A couple of weeks ago, AEW President Tony Khan was brutally attacked by The Elite. It wasn't the best segment in the company's history (it may, in fact, be among their worst), but Khan deserves praise for goinh all in on selling his "multiple head and neck injuries."
Moving forward, The Young Bucks are expected to take over AEW's shows as heel EVPs, with the tag team even taking out their old friend - and fellow EVP - Kenny Omega during last week's AEW Dynamite.
Seeing as he's a long way off from being cleared to compete, it's unclear what the plan is for this storyline. What we can say, though, is that Tony has no intention to step into the ring and actually compete (as former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon did before him).
"AEW is where the best wrestle, and we mean that...in this case, I'm not the best person to pay those people back," Khan told Cincy360. "There's a lot of things I'm good at behind the scenes but somebody else is gonna have to avenge what those guys did not only to me, but to Kenny Omega."
"I'm quite sure there are more capable wrestlers than I am that can inflict some of that punishment on The Young Bucks and Jack Perry and Okada, The Elite. [And] after what happened to me last time, I don't think I'd be making a smart move trying that."
This news is likely to come as a relief to fans worried that Khan has plans to become a main character on AEW programming. That may still happen, though we can at least discount the possibility of him wrestling for now.
In a separate interview with TMZ, Khan addressed his recent comments about AEW being like Pepsi while competing with WWE...a company he described as being like sex offender Harvey Weinstein.
"I’m glad that it was so much attention for AEW," he said. "It’s a really exciting time for the company. A lot of people have been introduced to AEW this week and I know that we had a great audience for our show on Saturday,"
"We got tons of coverage for AEW, and I think it is important to say that I think AEW is the best wrestling company in the world in many ways. I think that we have the best wrestlers, the best matches, we’ve been putting on the best shows. I think the best pay-per-view events this year have been the two AEW events."
“There are so many great things that have happened in AEW this year, and I’ll hold our track record up on anything, whether it’s the quality of the shows, the safety, the travel, the hotels," Khan concluded. "Everything we do, in and out of the ring, I think AEW is the very best."
Do you think Khan should step into the ring for a match?
