AEW has finally released the brackets for their World Tag Team title tournament!
This past Wednesday, AEW confirmed a new tournament that will confirm the next challengers for those prestigious belts at Forbidden Door in London. The first match saw FTR vs. Jet Speed (Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight).
Bailey and Knight gave the former AEW World Tag Team Champions a run for their money on Dynamite, but Dax and Cash were able to score the win thanks to some help from Stoke Hathaway. The most interesting part of the tournament announcement was that the brackets didn’t show any other team but FTR and Jet Speed.
That changed on Saturday night when AEW finally listed the full matches in the tournament:
- Bang Bang Gang (Austin Gunn & Juice Robinson) vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith
- The Outrunners vs. Young Bucks
- Gates of Agony vs Brodido (Brody King & Bandido)
Juice Robinson replaces Colten Gunn, who is sidelined by an injury that forced him out of the competition. It’s unknown why it took AEW so long to give a full list of team names for the tournament. Though it’s interesting that one specific team isn’t here: Private Party.
Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen haven’t fought on AEW television since they dropped the belts to The Hurt Syndicate back in January. Recently, there’s been news that the duo’s contracts are coming up and there’s no word on whether the two sides are currently in talks. But Private Party’s future in AEW sure does seem bleak, which is a shame.
Nevertheless, the Bang Bang Gang vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith took place on Collision and the former earned their victories over the duo when Juice got the three count over Keith via roll-up.
On Wednesday, it’s been confirmed that former AEW World Tag Team Champions (who are no longer EVPs) The Young Bucks will take on The Outrunners. Given the teams involved, this should be a very fun match.
Who’s going to make it to the semi-finals? We’ll find out on Dynamite this Wednesday! It’s quite the loaded show as Adam “Hangman” Page will defend the AEW World title against Jon Moxley in the main event.
