Brodido is living on cloud nine.
The AEW Tag Team tournament was filled with some of the best tag teams in the world, but prior to the tournament, Brodido didn’t exist. Bandido was doing his thing down in ROH as the ROH World Champion and Brody King was flying solo for the time being since his partner Buddy Matthews was out with an injury.
The duo shocked everyone by getting an upset win over The Young Bucks and they pulled off a massive victory by pinning former AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR. The reign of Brodido begins and the two are traveling worldwide to take their talents to different promotions.
It’s been confirmed that Brodido will travel to CMLL to compete at an upcoming show on September 12th.
Thus far, Brodido’s opponents have yet to be confirmed. The AEW World Tag Team Champions are coming off a loss on Wednesday as they teamed with JetSpeed (Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey) to take on The Don Callis Family (Hechicero, Josh Alexander, Kazuchika Okada & Konosuke Takeshita. This was the first time that the duo lost as a team.
Despite the minor hiccup, the duo is clicking on all cylinders. However, there was an interesting question posed as many wondered about Brody’s original tag team partner and the new AEW World Tag Team Champion explained at a recent press conference about his partnership with Buddy Matthews.
"I mean I hope that Buddy is at home healing, and I hope that he is, you know, happy for me. But when the time comes and he comes back, then, you know, we always have the trios titles," he said. "But I will say that right now, I think it is really awesome that two AEW homegrown guys are now the tag team champions again and hopefully it stays that way for a while."
Could this be the beginning of the end for Brody and Buddy? We won’t find out until he returns from his ankle injury, which will seemingly take him out for the rest of the year. In the meantime, we’ll have to enjoy Brodido tearing it up in AEW and CMLL. We’ll keep you updated when Brody and Bandido’s opponents are confirmed. Though for now, Bandido has to worry about defending his ROH World title against Hechicero at Death Before Dishonor.
