It appears that Jeff Cobb’s contract with Ring of Honor will end soon.
The ROH World Television champion is in the midst of a nice push in the promotion, as he also captured the NEVER Openweight title back at the Madison Square Garden show. Cobb’s short contract stems from his Lucha Underground deal, in which the former Matanza Cueto was under a seven to nine-year deal, something he wasn’t a fan of coming out of LU.
It’s also the reason Cobb didn’t sign with Impact Wrestling, as the company wanted him under a two-year deal and The ROH star wasn’t interested in entering another long-term contract so soon:
"i initially signed for one year. That was another reason I decided to go with Ring of Honor. Impact offered me a two-year deal. I was telling Sonjay Dutt at the time I just got out of a bad relationship with the Lucha (Underground) contract, so I didn't want to be tied down for a long period of time” said Cobb during his interview with Fightful.com.
“They really wanted to push the two-year contract, and I didn't want something long term because I got out of this crazy 7-9 year contract".
While its not a foregone conclusion, Cobb spoke to Jim Ross and stated that he would remain with ROH for the "foreseeable future." It's unknown when Cobb's deal specifically started, but it was reported that he'd came to terms last July.
As for Lucha Underground, the future of the show still remains unknown, though it wouldn’t be a surprise if the show was confirmed dead. It's been over a year since they filmed, and both the network and LU have remained silent on the future of the promotion. King Cuerno, Ivelisse, Joey Ryan and Kobra Moon were released after filing a class-action lawsuit against the company. When asked if he was surprised, Cobb was moreso shocked that it didn't happen sooner:
"Not at all. I was more shocked that it took this long for someone to do it. It was good while it was going. No clue what happened. I wish I knew what happened. If they would have been more up front and told us what was going on, I think there would have been less angry people,"
