Following his disappointing return to the Octagon at UFC 229 in which he was submitted by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fourth round, Conor McGregor has taken to social media with a message to fans.
"I'll be back," McGregor wrote on Instagram. Meanwhile, on Twitter, he wrote,
"Good Knock. Looking forward to the rematch."
Neither post mentioned Nurmagomedov by name, which isn't surprising given the bad blood between these two fighters. UFC 229 ended in wild chaos when after the fight Nurmagomedov jumped out of the Octagon and charged towards McGregor's team. While the melee ensued outside of the cage, a few teammates of Nurmagomedov's jumped into the Octagon and blindsided McGregor with some cheap shots. Both fighters were escorted to the backstage area - Nurmagomedov without the belt around his waist - and did eventually give post-match press conferences.
No one really knows what's next for either fighter, as Dana White suggested Nurmagomedov could face suspension for his actions and even possibly be stripped of his lightweight title.
As for McGregor, he has mentioned numerous potential opponents, including Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, and even Floyd Mayweather. But it's clear based on his posts that the MMA's star fighter wants a rematch with Nurmagomedov at some point.
