Ella Envy and Miss Starr are no longer the NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champions.
This past weekend in professional wrestling was historic as it featured big shows from both NXT and AEW; however, something big went under the radar as Ella Envy and Miss Starr (aka Samantha Starr) dropped the NWA belts. The news isn’t particularly a surprise as Envy gave it away herself a month prior by announcement that she left NWA.
“Starting on January 1st, I, Ella Envy, am now a free agent,” Envy told WrestleZone’s Ella Jay. “It was not an easy decision to leave the NWA. I had been with them since I was 21 years old. I am now 24 years old. They were the first people I feel like to really take a chance on me and to believe in me. Without the NWA, there would be no Ella Envy and no 'It Girl.' But with that being said, I am getting older and I just feel like I need to spread my wings. I feel like I need to exercise every opportunity that life throws at me, wrestling-related and non-wrestling-related.”
Once that news spread like wildfire, it was only a manner of who would take the belts of the IT Girls since the NWA didn’t strip her and Starr of the tag team championships.
It seemed that Kylie Page and Big Mama would be the duo, but the former suffered a broken arm, so she couldn’t compete. However, her sister, Kenzie Page - who is also the current NWA Women’s World Champion - came in as her replacement and won the prestigious belts with Big Mama.
Kenzie Page became the first woman to hold the NWA Women’s World title and NWA Women’s Tag Team titles simultaneously. Page is currently in the midst of a 500-day plus title reign, with her most recent win being against Haley J. Big Mama is also a singles NWA champion herself. She currently holds the NWA Women’s World Television title. She’s going 100 plus days strong.
As for Envy and Starr, NWA is currently on tape delay so there’s no word on whether they filmed an angle to break up the IT Girls. They were a central figure of the company’s tag team division so it’s a shame that Ella is gone, but this could be a good opportunity for Miss Starr as it’ll allow her to brand out into singles competition if the company decides to go in that direction.
