The indie surprises continue.
This time, it’s with the National Wrestling Alliance as Billy Corgan just announced a huge get for their upcoming Crockett Cup Tournament. For those who don’t know much about the tag team tournament, it’s a traditional single elimination format with 20 plus tag teams. Hall of Fame teams such as The Road Warriors, Midnight Express, Lex Luger and Sting, and Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard have taken part in the old school tournament.
The promotion confirmed their annual Crockett Cup tag team tournament will take place on May 17th at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA, but they also announced that former WWE Women’s Champion Natalya Neidhart will be in action for their annual pay-per-view.
This is the first time Natalya steps into an National Wrestling Alliance ring. Plus, this is a huge get for the promotion. NWA has been notably struggling since the Samhain pay-per-view in 2023; that was the time when the company struck a deal with the CW, but networks officials allegedly demoted the promotion to their exclusive app following a controvserial spot on the Samhain show.
The NWA and CW partnership ended nearly a year ago, yet the company hasn’t received the same buzz that they had before the pandemic because Power is quite different than it used to be. Still, NWA has some solid female talent on their roster and it would be cool to see Natalya mix it up with some one like Kenzie Page (who recently passed 500 days at the NWA World Women’s Champion), Haley J, or Tiffany Nieves.
Thus far, the NWA has yet to announce who the former women’s champion will be facing at the Crockett Cup nor have they confirmed the teams that will be competing at the event. Former WWE stars Knox (Mike Knox in WWE) and Murdoch (Trevor Murdoch in WWE) are currently the NWA World Tag Team Champions. The winners of the annual Crockett Cup will receive a title shot down the line. We’ll keep you updated when NWA announces the teams for the tournament and Natalya’s official opponent.
