It doesn't matter how big of a star a wrestler is outside of WWE, they more often than not have to report straight to the Performance Center if they choose to sign with the company to be taught how to do things the WWE way as part of the NXT roster. There are some exceptions - AJ Styles, for example - but everyone from Shinsuke Nakamura to Bobby Roode has had to compete in NXT.
There are, of course, many indie wrestlers who are happy not being part of WWE and Cody Rhodes - formerly known as Stardust - is among them. He's made quite a name for himself over the past year or so and is now very much leading the charge for the likes of Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks to make big money and become a household name without the help of WWE.
As you can see below, though, Rhodes has now made some very interesting remarks about the developmental brand and pokes fun at the handshake photo which is often shared by Triple H when a big new name is signed. He's clearly not a fan of experienced wrestlers going back to "school" and if he ever does choose to return to WWE, it's fair to say that he won't want to be part of NXT...
