New NXT Champion Finn Balor Reveals Why We Haven't Seen His Demon Persona In So Long

It's been quite a while since we saw Finn Balor don the paint and persona of "The Demon King," and the new NXT Champion explains why he decided to move away from the character in a recent interview.

Back when Finn Balor debuted on NXT, pretty much every match saw him don the facepaint of The Demon. That became less regular when he moved to the main roster, but fans still looked forward to an occasional appearance from the Irishman's darker persona.

Balor ditched The Demon completely when he returned to the black and gold brand, and during an interview Digital Spy, he explained why that chartacter wouldn't be a good fit for the far more aggressive, borderline heelish "Prince."

“I feel like The Demon was supposed to be a one-off in Tokyo Dome, Japan and it grew into this completely separate entity that for some time I had control over and then eventually it just kind of spun out of control. I was trying to please too many people and not pleasing myself. I feel like I lost a grip on what the character was and what I was utilising it for. I feel like the main element that The Demon had was the element of surprise and I feel like we lost that in a sense and it became more like a crutch for Finn.”

He's not wrong in that the persona probably did become overused, but it would be nice to see him crawl out to the ring in that creepy black and red getup now and again. Fortunately, Balor promised that we haven';t seen the last of The Demon.

Finn is expected to hold on to the NXT title until Karrion Kross is cleared to compete. Demon Balor vs. The Duke of Doom? Yes please.
