Could Nixon Newell be the next MPX Women’s Champion?
The former WWE star surprised fans this past weekend with an appearance at Metroplex Wrestling’s Who Runs The World? Event. Newell came out after the main event, which saw former AEW star Abadon challenge Reiza Clarke for the MPX Women’s Championship.
Abadon emerged victorious, but she didn't have much of a chance to celebrate as Newell confronted the new MPX Women’s Champion. It was a rather simple segment that saw Newell indicate that she’s next in line for the women’s title.
Nixon has been getting back into the swing of professional wrestling in 2025. Going under the name Tegan Nox in WWE, the 30-year-old was with her previous employer for seven years. Newell was actually fired twice from the company; once in November 2021. She was returned the next year; unfortunately, WWE didn’t do much with Nixon. She made a couple of main roster appearances here and there, with the most notable thing being that she challenged Becky Lynch for the NXT Women’s title.
Nixon was released again in November 2024 and was out of action for a bit until 2025. The former WWE star has spoken out about why her last stint failed and notably targeted fans who thought that she was injury prone on her social media earlier this year.
“Oh hey, it’s me—your favorite ‘injury-prone’ wrestler. Or at least that’s what you guys say, right? I mean, I see the comments you post online. So if you’re gonna keep talking, let’s at least get creative with it, because the jokes? They’re tired. It’s old.”
She also slammed her former employer over being labeled difficult for speaking up for herself.
“I was playing a game I couldn’t win. You’re told to speak up and be empowered, but when you actually do, suddenly you’re unprofessional and difficult. So tell me—how is that fair?”
Nixon has a chance to prove WWE wrong on the independent scene. Unfortunately, she does have the injury prone label stuck to her name, so it’s likely a reason she hasn’t shown up in places like TNA or AEW. However, Nixon is still young, so it wouldn’t be too late for her to return to the WWE if she can showcase why WWE made a mistake releasing her.
