Undefeated NXT Women's Champion Asuka Suffered An Injury At NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN III

Asuka may have emerged from NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III as the still undefeated NXT Women's Champion but it's not all good news for the charismatic Superstar as she sustained an injury during her match there.

Many wrestling fans expected Asuka's reign as NXT Women's Champion to finally come to an end at SummerSlam this weekend but Ember Moon was defeated and the Japanese wrestler remains on top of the women's division down in Full Sail. However, it's not all good news as WWE has announced that Asuka suffered a broken right collarbone during this encounter.

Asuka was able to finish the match and was attended to by ringside physician
Dr. Jeffrey Westerfield once the bell rang. "During the match, she landed awkwardly from a throw from Ember Moon and was able to complete the match, but had notable pain and discomfort. We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray."

It's not all bad news, though, as the timetable for an injury like this is usually 6 - 8 weeks. No specific timetable has been given by WWE in regards to Asuka's return to the ring but given the way NXT is filmed, there's a chance she won't be missed from action for too long (which reduces the likelihood of her having to forfeit the title). We'll be sure to keep you updated.
