Once upon a time, it looked like Velveteen Dream would be one of WWE's biggest stars, but the controversial Superstar has now been released from his NXT contract.

Dream, whose real name is Patrick Clark, was discovered by WWE at the age of 19 on Tough Enough. He signed a developmental contract (despite not winning), and was repackaged with a Prince-inspired gimmick. That took off with fans in a big way, and he later won the NXT North American Championship which he held for a record 231 days.

On route to potentially becoming NXT Champion, Clark was accused of sending nude photos to young girls on Instagram and asked for some in return.

Law enforcement was never involved, but Dream seemingly went off the deep end, getting involved in a car accident and missing a lot of TV time. Triple H and WWE stood by him, but he hasn't actually made an appearance on television this year.

That's despite rumours of a main roster debut, and regardless of whether he was guilty of the many accusations that were levelled at him, those didn't paint a flattering picture of Clark's conduct in his personal life (there was certainly some pretty compelling evidence that he had indeed sent those photos).

It feels like there's more to this story, and we'll hopefully have further details to share with you soon.
