The WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament took place back in January and a weekly TV show was supposed to follow (on the WWE Network) revolving around the company's newly contracted British wrestlers. However, it's no secret the company is looking to save money and that's led to a number of shows being scrapped or put on hold for the foreseeable future.
However, a new report reveals that WWE is now pitching the show to UK broadcasters, including ITV. They're a big part of why WWE created this UK division as their World of Sport revival would have posed a serious threat to WWE's contract with Sky Sports. A UK broadcaster paying toward the show would help and it would then presumably be added to the Network for those overseas.
Fascinatingly, the series already has a name and that will be King of the Ring. Whether or not this means the tournament is being brought back for a limited series (which would well on UK TV as opposed to a 52-week effort similar to RAW and SmackDown Live) remains to be seen but it makes sense. Nothing is set in stone yet but we should know more soon. What do you think?
