Was CM Punk scheduled to be in the Impact zone?

Moose is coming off an excellent performance against Oba Femi at NXT: Roadblock; The X-Division Champion gave Femi a run for his money, but he ultimately came up short in his quest to become the new NXT Champion. There’s no telling what the future lies with Moose and NXT, but apparently, there was going to be a future with Impact Wrestling and CM Punk.

According to Moose himself, the X-Division Champion claims that there were plans for him and the former WWE Champion to feud. Moose never gives a date on when (likely after he was fired from AEW), but he notes that Punk was supposed to come to TNA.

It may sound crazy, but there was a rumor that Punk could possibly have a future with TNA Wrestling. A month after he was released from AEW, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful noted that CM Punk showed up backstage for a television taping of then named Impact Wrestling. Sapp stated in his report that it was a long shot that the current WWE star would end up in TNA, but remember when journalists claimed that WWE had no interest in bringing Punk?

Anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling and it would be interesting to see where Punk would be if WWE never brought him back. Thus far, CM Punk hasn’t responded to Moose’s claims, but they’re rather harmless overall as Moose praises the 46-year-old in his post.

Believe it or not, CM Punk does have a history with TNA as he worked with the promotion from 2002 - 2004. Punk even signed a full time deal! He came in with his buddy Ace Steel and had numbers matches before his leaving in 2004. According to several reports, Punk would end up quitting TNA as the company made a mandate that contracted performers could no longer work Ring of Honor shows. Punk’s final TNA match was a tag team bout with Julio Dinero against Sabu and Raven.

Maybe someday Punk will address Moose’s comments and confirm Moose’s claims (or shut them down). It definitely would’ve been a strange sight to see CM Punk wrestling for Impact after his WWE and AEW stint.
