Despite being renewed for a fourth season last year, Netflix announced earlier this week that popular comedy drama series GLOW has been cancelled and will not be returning for its final run on the streaming service.
This was a massive blow to fans of the show, especially since the Season 3 finale concluded with the "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling" parting ways and the mended relationship between Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) seemingly on the rocks after the former turned down friend's offer to start their own production company.
The cast have been sharing their reactions to the news on social media, but Gilpin (Nurse Jackie, The Hunt) has now penned a heartfelt tribute to the show, praising her castmates and the likes of former WWE star Chavo Guerrero and showrunners Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch.
You'll find a couple of excerpts below, but be sure to check out the piece in full over at Vanity Fair.
"GLOW was cancelled. I am sad. It was the best job I’ll ever have. Our business is a strange mix of attempting childhood dreams to a room full of asleep people and shirking dignity for awake tomato-throwers for rent. This was one of those extremely rare times where we got to do the dream for awake people. And it didn’t disappear in an audition room or unsent email. We did it on a show, recorded it all, I swear. Thirty episodes....
...If you like me are feeling insane at waking up every morning to check your phone to see if the emperor having no clothes counts as being immune-compromised, and you need a break, I have a recommendation. It’s not world changing—we need to do that most right now, and focus our efforts there. But. If in between fighting you need an escape, I suggest watching GLOW. "
Farewell GLOW - your third season may have been hit and miss, but we were very much looking forward to finding out how things wrapped up for the ladies.
