Last week, there was a ton of chatter on social media about The Miz potentially being released by WWE. That came shortly after two of his fellow veterans, Carlito and R-Truth, were let go by the company when WWE decided not to renew their contracts.
R-Truth, a.k.a. Ron Killings, has since been rehired, of course.
The Miz has been signed with WWE since 2004, and he's currently paired up with rising star Carmello Hayes on SmackDown. If he were to be released, it would be a legit shocker, and a sign that the TKO-owned WWE has little in the way of loyalty to even its most steadfast Superstars.
Speculation that he's parted ways with the company started when fans pointed out that The Miz had removed all mention of WWE from his social media accounts. Several websites and accounts also claimed that he'd unfollowed his employers.
Well, The Miz has now chimed in on Instagram, setting the record straight about his current status with WWE:
"Since I’m talking on here, I feel like I need to address some things because I keep getting texts from friends asking me, ‘Is the news on social media real?’ And my thing is everyone get off of social media and don’t listen to any of it. Because it’s all false. Everything I’ve seen about me is false and I didn’t want to address it. I thought it would just go away. I didn’t want to draw attention to it because if I said something, then it might draw more attention and I just didn’t want that but, it just keeps going. So, I will say it like it is."
"As far as X, Instagram and TikTok and my profiles, I’ve never changed any of ‘em recently. The last time I changed my Twitter profile was probably five years ago. It still says Twitter on it so — it doesn’t say it — so I haven’t changed that in like five years. I haven’t unfollowed WWE at all. WWE and I are in very good standings. We just dropped Miz Golf, which is part of WWE’s YouTube. So, and then, as far as WWE is concerned, tonight is the most important pay-per-view of the year in my opinion because it’s Money in the Bank."
That's the end of that, then. While Triple H suggested that Truth's return was always planned, the reality was that the response from fans forced the company's hand. It's hardly surprising that The Game doesn't love it, as he was there for the "Yes Movement," remember.
