During Saturday night's Money in the Bank PLE in London, England, John Cena made a surprise appearance to hype fans up about WrestleMania potentially coming to the UK one day.
That's a carrot WWE has been dangling over the heads of UK fans for several years now, though last September's Clash at the Castle proved the company can quite easily sell out a stadium on that side of the pond. AEW, meanwhile, has sold a huge number of tickets for its All Out PPV in London's Wembley Stadium.
Triple H played coy when asked about a UK WrestleMania during the Money in the Bank press conference, but Dave Meltzer believes WWE is legitimately interested in bringing the Show of Shows to Great Britain.
He explains that due to London being a city that has no trouble attracting tourists, they don't need to court WWE for a WrestleMania in order to boost visitors. As a result, they're not going to get paid to bring the Showcase of the Immortals to the Big Smoke, a stark contrast to what happened in Wales.
Cardiff not only paid to bring Clash at the Castle there, but embarked on a huge media campaign with WWE to turn the city into a hub for all things pro wrestling. In contrast, Money in the Bank felt like just another show at the O2 Arena.
Meltzer acknowledged that there's big money to be made in doing a two-night WrestleMania overseas, so it may well happen...it's a long way from being confirmed, though. As for why Cena came out to tease the possibility, the video of fans going nuts for the idea will be a good way to sell potential cities on the possibility!
For now, we'll have to wait and see what happens, but if not London, then Cardiff may be an option. The only downside there is the city doesn't really have a suitable venue for RAW and SmackDown.
Do you think WrestleMania could head to the UK?
