Kurt Angle had a legendary WWE career and that was recently the subject of a new documentary on Peacock. While the WWE Hall of Famer has spoken openly about wanting his final match to be with John Cena, he retired at WrestleMania 35 following a losing effort to Baron Corbin.
It wasn't how he, or his fans, wanted the Olympic Gold Medallist's in-ring career to end but Angle doesn't appear to be one for regrets. However, he did admit in an interview with the Grue Rume Show that there's one person he desperately wanted to face but simply never got the chance to.
"Bret Hart, I would have loved to work. Bret Hart," he reveals (h/t WrestlingNews.co). "I think he's one of the best technical wrestlers of all time. I put him up there with Chris Benoit, myself, and Eddie Guerrero, and I would have loved to work with him. He was the one guy when I got in the business that I was kind of focused on. This is who I want to work with eventually, someday."
"Unfortunately, he left the WWE a year before I came in, and he ended up getting injured in WCW and had to retire. So it was unfortunate. I didn't get to wrestle him."
"Bret and I talk about it all the time," Angle said of his fellow WWE Hall of Famer. "The one person he would have loved to wrestle was me. And, you know, we call each other every once in a while, and we talk about what would have been and what could have been, but the only thing it does is it ends up making us depressed. So we don't talk about that much anymore."
This would have quite literally been a dream match, but neither man was in the right place at the right time to make it a reality. It's hard not to picture it being a technical masterpiece and we're sure it will go down as a bout fans - and the wrestlers themselves - forever wonder about.
In the same interview, Angle was asked to share his thoughts on who he enjoys seeing compete today.
"I like watching Kenny Omega wrestle for AEW. He’s a great wrestler. A great athlete," he responded. "I love the guys, wrestlers like Ricochet in WWE. I think he’s really underrated. I think a guy like that can be a huge main eventer for the company and draw a lot of money for them. The matches that he has are just incredible."
ANGLE is now streaming on Peacock.
