New Details Emerge About Current Plans For John Cena And The Rock At WRESTLEMANIA 41

At Money in the Bank earlier this year, John Cena confirmed that he's going to retire from in-ring action next year with a WWE retirement tour.

While he's expected to work the entirety of 2025, this means the upcoming Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania PLEs will be the final time we see him at those events as an active competitor.

In total, the Leader of the Cenation is said to be targeting 36 total dates over the course of the year, including the first RAW on Netflix. There's been a lot of speculation about who he could and should face, though many fans believe he should break Ric Flair's record and become a 17-time WWE Champion.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reveals, "We do know that the idea of Cena challenging one of the two champions, in an effort to have him break Flair’s record is something strongly talked about, including for Mania."

Cena dethroning Gunther would make a lot of sense, though two back-to-back title losses on the Grandest Stage of Them All wouldn't do the heel much good in the long run. The other option is Cody Rhodes, of course.

Now, on to another pro wrestler-turned Hollywood A-Lister with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. We've heard conflicting reports about his presence at the Showcase of the Immortals despite the expectation being that he'll challenge Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

It's previously been reported that The Rock won't work WrestleMania 41 due to his Hollywood commitments. However, he'd later hit back at those reports by taking to Instagram to say, "Don’t believe any of that bullsh*t."

Both WrestleVotes and Fightful have said The Rock is prioritising WWE but Meltzer has doubled down on his previous comments about the Final Boss.

"We’re told again that he’s not committed at this point. Obviously if he wants to and feels he can do so, he’ll be doing it. It’s totally up to him. But in checking with two people who would both almost have to know about the Mania main event, one said that there is nothing set and the other said Johnson is not scheduled."

The clock is ticking for The Rock in terms of what he can do in the ring, so if he does give this year's WrestleMania a miss...well, we're not overly convinced WrestleMania 42 will be an option for him.

As always, keep checking back here for updates as we have them.
