With 2026 fast approaching, WWE's tentative plans for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas are starting to take shape. However, there have already been some bumps on the Road to WrestleMania, with Seth Rollins' Crown Jewel injury shaking up next year's Show of Shows.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, with Rollins now expected to be sidelined for at least another three to four months, his planned World Heavyweight Championship match with Roman Reigns is off the table.
"Rollins this week estimated being out three to four more months. WrestleMania is three-and-a-half months away," Meltzer wrote. "The last time I asked about Mania and Rollins it was that the option was still open but it was far from a sure thing."
WWE still has major plans for the OTC, and they involve a title. As was first teased at Survivor Series: WarGames last month, it seems the company intends to revisit Reigns' rivalry with current Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
"Rollins vs. Reigns, at the time for the title, was the planned main event of one of the nights, but obviously that as a title match is out the window and it’s looking like Rhodes vs. Reigns as the big match of the show," Meltzer revealed.
Reigns vs. Rhodes III is an undeniably huge match, and it could be that WWE is finally going to pull the trigger on a heel run for the American Nightmare. If so, here's hoping that it goes better for him than it did for John Cena this year.
It would also be particularly fitting for these two to square off again, as they'll also go head-to-head in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. As for CM Punk, the last we heard, he's still set to defend the World Heavyweight title against Bron Breakker.
"Cody's a great Champion, he beat me so he's gotta be, right?" Reigns said of losing the title to Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. "But he was never more relevant than when he was in my circle, on my island, and that continues to shine through."
"That's the beauty of this. Even when they feel like they're done with us or we're done with them, we're still able to push everybody and make everybody better because it's a competition.
"There's no sabotage, no bullshit, behind-the-scenes type stuff, the cream rises to the top, and if you're better than me then go out there and show me, you can get as much time as you want," he continued. "Anybody who orbits The Bloodline and I, it's proven."
WrestleMania 42 is set to take place on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
