Well, this isn't exactly a surprise. The first-ever women's wrestling match will not be taking place today in Saudi Arabia after all.

All week, there has been rumblings that WWE were trying to get a women's match greenlit by the Saudi government and Alexa Bliss and Natalya were flown to the country in preparation. Well, while discussions have been ongoing for months, the government has reportedly said no despite the situation looking good at one point.

Dave Meltzer first broke the news and with Super ShowDown happening as we write this, it sems unlikely the situation will change.

WWE returns to Saudi Arabia in November, so perhaps they'll try again but this probably isn't the result the company was hoping for.
