WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin has finally discussed his infamous interview with Dean Ambrose.
Deemed by many as an awkward and terrible interview between the former WWE Champions, Moxley finally revealed the reason he shut down during the podcast, citing that there were several personal questions within the first few seconds of the podcast that pissed him off.
Moxley revealed shortly after he spoke about his appearance on the podcast that he had a talk with the WWE Hall of Famer, though he never goes into details regarding what was said. On
The Steve Austin Show, the wrestling legend finally addressed the podcast with his guest, AEW President Tony Khan, and the former WWE Champion states that the interview still haunts him till this day (transcript courtesy of wrestletalk.com):
“I did a Stone Cold podcast a couple of years ago with Dean Ambrose and for whatever reason we got off on the wrong track and it was a rough podcast. I’ve been carrying 1000 lbs on my back ever since that happened. I felt so bad about that interview – and I was leading that interview so I gotta take the fault of it – because I’m there to get people over and make them come off like a million bucks.
We just came off on the wrong street and kept taking left turns and we never got back on track. Well, we never were on track. And he had his reasons and I had mine. And for all this time I felt like s*** about that interview. People said the podcast got cut because of how bad that interview was. No – I fulfilled my commitment and that’s why the podcast stopped.
Everyone thought there was heat between myself and Dean. His fans were just crapping all over me. There was all this discombobulation and s*** going on on social media. That interview is something I think about every single day. I s*** you not – that’s how bad that bothered me.”
Austin recalls reaching out to AEW's newest talent and reveals that the two buried the hatchet, and plan on working together in the near future:
“I was talking to a mutual friend and he said something about talking to Jon. I text back and said, ‘Man, that interview still haunts me.’ And he said, ‘Why don’t you call him?’ But I said ‘I don’t know the guy, do you have his number?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah’. I was like, ‘Can I have it?’, he says, ‘Yeah’.
I immediately called Jon Moxley and said, ‘Dean (because I didn’t know what to call him), Steve Austin,’ and we had the best 30 minute conversation, getting back on the same page.
We never had any personal animosity but I didn’t know how he felt about me. He might have hated my guts. Anyway, we got back on the same page and he never hated my guts. I’m a huge Jon Moxley fan. I think hes gonna come down to Los Angeles and we are gonna do the podcast.
But this thing has haunted me for so damn long and people think that I am this guy with a Darth Vader force field around me where I don’t feel things – but I do. And when I have not made someone look like they are supposed to look, that haunts me.”
