It's being reported by Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men podcast that WWE officials are looking to make even more releases. It was only earlier this month that the likes of Braun Strowman and Lana received their marching orders, while countless WWE Headquarters employees have also been fired as the company looks to save money.
Oh, and did we mention that WWE is in the midst of its most profitable year ever?
It's said that there are a lot of people within WWE who believe the company doesn't intend to fully release some Superstars. That may sound counterproductive, but there's a method behind Vince McMahon's madness because this means the company can then re-negotiate deals and pay Superstars less.
If you're Strowman, for example, swapping that $1.2 million a year for, say, $500,000 will sting, but it'll sting a lot less than attempting to make the same money on the indies.
People are unhappy about this, especially as it means deals could be changed at any time, but WWE definitely wants to cut back on contracts and more releases are on the way that will be permanent. There's no word on when that's going to be, but that batch in June wasn't the end of this.
Since the first round of budget cuts in April, we've said goodbye to Wesley Blake, Bo Dallas, Chelsea Green, Tucker Knight, Kalisto, Peyton Royce, Billie Kay, Mickie James, Samoa Joe, Ruby Riott, Aleister Black, Braun Strowman, Santana Garrett, Lana, Buddy Murphy, Lars Sullivan, Steve Cutler, and Andrade (the latter three were for different reasons, though).
