WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne Explains Why WWE Is Helping The Independent Scene
There was a time when WWE was frequently accused of trying to put independent promotions out of business but United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne has now weighed in on why those claims don't make any sense.
WWE never had a particularly good relationship with independent wrestling promotions and while it's unlikely that they'll ever mention Impact Wrestling, they've made a great effort in recent years to develop relationships with a number of companies. That's why we're seeing more and more WWE talent showing up at various events and wrestlers from those promotions arriving in NXT.
Someone who knows all about the work WWE - and Triple H in particular - is doing with the indie scene is United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunn and he's not lashed out at those who say otherwise.
"It's infuriating for people to claim that ... look at it: you've got girls from the Mae Young Classic who are still doing independents, you've got a WWE title that can be seen on independent shows, there's multiple WWE talents on these UK independent shows. To hear things like, 'WWE is trying to kill the independents' or whatever, that's the opposite of what seems to be happening, so I think those comments are completely absurd."
In recent years, WWE has clearly realised that helping the independent scene grow is good for them too and that they can poach wrestlers who gain experience elsewhere and then turn them into Superstars (whether that's on NXT or the main roster a la AJ Styles). What do you guys think of Dunne's comments? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the usual place.
