2023 was a disaster for Tony Khan; ridiculed for his claims that CM Punk left him in fear of his life and criticised for his childish outburst on social media, the AEW President has also faced declining ratings, low attendance, and poor reviews for the company's shows.
AEW Worlds End took place this weekend and Khan once again put him front and centre in a post-show media scrum.
Before the event took place, a series of sexual misconduct allegations about AEW star Chris Jericho were made public. Those included comparisons to Harvey Weinstein and the suggestion that Kylie Rae may have signed an NDA after an incident with him to secure her release from the company.
It's important to note that these are currently just allegations and, thus far, Jericho has not commented on the matter and we've heard nothing directly from any possible accusers.
Still, the situation has raised some important questions about how AEW handles sexual misconduct. Asked about that, Khan - who was wearing a comedic wig and glasses - provided the following non-answer:
"I can’t speak to internet and unsourced rumors. I spoke earlier to [Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Kevin McElvaney] and mentioned the policy we have in place, the disciplinary process. We’ve always followed that and I believe AEW is the safest wrestling company in the world. And we have the best track record for safety. I would hold it up to anybody. And anytime anybody has any kind of complaint, they have an open door to say it to me or anyone in the office, and we would look into it anytime. So again, Kevin asked about that policy. I believe I gave a pretty robust answer on that, and it would apply here too."
Khan also vowed to take any issues like these to AEW's disciplinary committee and reiterated that his is the safest pro wrestling company on the planet just a few short months after recording a video message in which he talked about his apparent near-death experience backstage.
Unsurprisingly, Khan is facing a great deal of backlash for how he answered this incredibly serious question.
