Swerve Strickland is the next in line for the AEW World Championship after defeating Ricochet in their No. 1 contender's match at AEW Revolution 2025—and that title went through a chaotic ending on this show, itself.
The feud between Strickland and Ricochet goes back before either of them were even in All Elite Wrestling, but once Ricochet joined the company, old feelings revved up again to the point that it got very personal, very quickly.
Eventually, Ricochet stole Prince Nana's robe, which drove a wedge between Strickland and his manager, who said that if he didn't get the robe back, he would have to rethink being by his side going forward, as it meant so much to him. Still wanting Strickland to get back on track to possibly regaining the AEW World Championship as well, though, Strickland and Nana ended up walking out of Revolution very happy to obtain both their goals.
Nana attempted to take his robe back during the match, only for Ricochet to regain possession. However, eventually, after two House Calls and a big Pressure, Strickland was about to put Ricochet down, earn his future title shot (which hasn't been announced yet), and give the robe back to Nana to restore their friendship.
Who is Strickland going to face? Well, Jon Moxley retained the AEW World Championship in the main event, but not truly by defeating his opponent, Cope.
That is because during the match, Christian Cage executed his option to cash in his world title opportunity (which, like Money in the Bank rules, he could pull out of nowhere and has teased here and there over the past few months).
Cage nearly stole the victory over his former best friend, but "The Rated-R Superstar" managed to keep fighting. However, Moxley locked Cage in a bulldog choke, causing a technical submission to retain his title.
This means there are grounds for Cope to continue his feud with Moxley, but he may also pivot to a rivalry with his ally, "Switchblade" Jay White, who inadvertently nailed Cope with the title briefcase accidentally during the match. More often than not in pro wrestling, this leads to a misunderstanding that results in those two teammates feuding with each other.
AEW Revolution ended with Moxley being attacked by Strickland to make a statement, as Swerve jumped from the security railing in the crowd to land on top of the leader of The Death Riders.
