CM Punk Addresses AEW Airing His Backstage Altercation With Jack Perry: "It Felt Really Ugly"

Tony Khan's decision to air the AEW All In security footage of CM Punk's brawl with Jack Perry drew a largely negative response, and the Second City Saint has talked more about his former boss's actions.

In one of the most blatant examples of "hotshot booking" you could ever hope to see, AEW President Tony Khan made the decision earlier this year to air the security footage from CM Punk's altercation with Jack Perry at All In

It didn't reveal much beyond the fact Punk had told the truth and attempts to turn the whole thing into an AEW storyline didn't work (it also did nothing for Dynamite's ratings and instead only served to promote a wrestler now competing in a different company).

During a recent interview, Punk talked more about how it felt to see AEW sling mud his way.

"It felt really ugly," the Best in the World admitted. "I was like, why? Showing that footage isn't going to help them or hurt me. So I was just like, whatever. Being the top draw in two different companies is wild, thanks guys."

"It's kinda like, I have to wrestle Drew McIntyre, right? This garbage person I don't want in my life. But this is the fight game, it's the sh**-talk business," he added, bringing the conversation back to his match with Drew McIntyre at tomorrow's SummerSlam PLE.

Elsewhere in the conversation, the Second City Saint was asked whether he finds himself rooting against AEW - a company it once looked like he'd end his wrestling career in - after the issues he faced there.

"I don't root against them. I think it's easy to be able to say like, 'Oh, can't wait till something bad happens to them' but the reality is there's a lot of people backstage that earn a paycheque," Punk explained. "I still have friends that work there, so it's not like I'm hoping somebody loses their job or everybody loses their job or something like that."

"I look at it like it's just not the same business that I'm in and if you're trying to get paid and you can go there, go get paid, congratulations."

It's clear that Punk has moved on, even if AEW and Tony Khan haven't! Whereas that company continues to decline in popularity, WWE is bigger now than ever before and Punk's return has only served to increase interest in the promotion.

The plan had been for him to main event WrestleMania prior to his injury and the hope among fans is that's now in the cards for next year.

"It didn't reveal much beyond the fact Punk had told the truth"

Man, y'all are like Trump's MAGA dipshits, just ignoring reality in favor of facts that make you feel good. Punk started the altercation, shoving Perry and then putting him in a front naked choke, and it took three full grown men (including Samoa Joe!) to pull him off. It wasn't just "choking someone a little." He was trying to put dude out.

Also, setting ALL of that aside, Punk resorted violence to settle an interpersonal conflict at work. He's a petulant child, and I can't imagine what they're paying him at WWE to keep him in line. I guess they have a lot of extra money lying around now that they don't have to pay off all of Vince's sex slaves anymore.

"attempts to turn the whole thing into an AEW storyline didn't work"

Man, you might want to watch the product. Because the storyline absolutely cemented the Buck's heel status while priming Perry for a return as "The Scapegoat," which has been massively successful. You sound kind of unqualified to be talking about wrestling, tbh.

"It's clear that Punk has moved on, even if AEW and Tony Khan haven't!"

AEW haven't mentioned Punk in four months, and Punk took a shot at AEW on a promo less than a month ago. You genuinely just don't know what you're talking about, huh? Just copypasta from the dirt sheets and smile smugly. You are remarkably bad at your job.

Anyway, I think it's great that Glass Phil made it through a match without a major injury. Fingers crossed his luck lasts.
