Mariah May is living on cloud nine.

Ever since the AEW star made her debut, many knew that she was marked for success. That’s because May was paired up with “Timeless” Toni Storm, who was the AEW Women’s World Champion at the time.

Fast Forward to July and the Owen Hart Cup Tournament, Mariah May beats Willow Nightingale and secures her spot as the number one contender for Storm’s belt. In a shocking twist, the 26-year-old turns on Storm and leaves her lying in her own pool of blood.

May and Storm would end up having one of the best women’s feuds in AEW, with the former winning the belt at All In. Now, Mariah is going strong as champion, with her recent win coming over Mira Shirakawa at Winter is Coming. When asked about being the AEW Women’s World Champion, Mariah May had nothing but positive things to say.

“It was amazing,” May told Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald. “Like I said, it’s a hell of a rookie year and I always planned to go after Toni Storm. I didn’t know it would go that far. I didn’t know that any of these things would happen. As I said it, kind of fell into place perfectly. Toni won the world title. Tony [Khan] put me into the Owen [Hart Foundation Tournament]. London’s my hometown. Wembley, All In is our biggest show and the way it fell into place was so perfect. When I first came in that was not really my intention. I was just going to have fun kind of picking apart Toni Storm, but for it to fall like that and to be the world champion in my first year is definitely a huge honor.

“It only makes sense because I always said I’m going to come into this division and I’m going to take over because I feel that I have the tools to do so,” May continued. “I feel like I have the look, the personality, and the skills just based on my travels, based on my experience and based on my work ethic. It was definitely a surreal moment. It still feels crazy, but also it feels right.”

May’s world could come crashing down in a couple of days since she’ll be defending her belt against former AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa. The two will be in a Tijuana street fight at World’s End on December 28th.
