Mercedes Mone will finally defend the Undisputed British Women’s Championship.
On January 5th, Mercedes Mone added another belt to her collection and now she’ll defend it for the first time. Her opponent will be a former PROGRESS Women’s Champion, Kanji. The first-time match-up is confirmed for the Doncaster Dome on Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Mone currently holds four championships, with the longest being the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship (261 days) and the TBS Championship (296 days). As you can imagine, Mone has been extremely busy defending the TBS title as she’s coming off a victory over Momo Watanabe and Harley Cameron.
Kanji hasn’t done much work in the states. The 30-year-old has mainly worked for Revolution Pro Wrestling, but Kanji has wrestled in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, CMLL, PROGRESS Wrestling, and ATTACK! Pro Wrestling. The last time Kanji challenged for the Undisputed British Women’s Championship was on January 1, 2024 where she had a two out of three falls match against then champion Safire Reed. Kanji wasn’t able to walk out victorious that night. However, that can all change on April 20th as this will be the first ever encounter between these two women.
Earlier this year, Cultaholic interviewed Andy Quidlan - RevPro Owner - about his partnership with Mercedes Mone and All Elite Wrestling and though it’s taken some work to finally get Mone to defend her championship, there’s so much more upside to the AEW star working for the independent company.
“The reality of the situation is that Mercedes wants to be a difference maker. She looks at something like Revolution Pro Wrestling and what we’re achieving against all odds and wants to be a part of that, and wants to help elevate that. There’s two sides in a partnership. For us, we’ve got this opportunity to work with a globally recognised talent who is hopefully going to bring more eyeballs on to our product. We’re already seeing it, our social media numbers have gone up substantially since Mercedes Moné has won that championship belt.
Our OnDemand subscribers have gone up, believe it or not, and I guess this is just her fans wanting to check out the product. So we’re already starting to see that, the first step to being noticed is being mentioned. The words ‘RevPro’ are on a lot more wrestling fans’ lips, be it positive, be it negative. I stand by the fact that you watch a Revolution Pro Wrestling show you will become a fan of Revolution Professional Wrestling. So that is absolutely perfect, it’s a match made in heaven for us.”
This should be an interesting match due to the clash of styles, but Andy is right, Mone working in RevPro will surely put much needed eyes on the product. Given the depth of talent there, this can only be a good thing.
